Thus, after ending his contract with River, the midfielder will once again wear the Gimnasia jersey, as he did between 2010 and 2015. In this regard, Fernández stated:

'The truth is that I waited a long time for this moment, I am very happy to be here. I had made up my mind to return and luckily we managed to do it. I'm already imagining myself entering the Forest (the stadium) in the Gimnasia shirt with my daughter. I thank the Board of Directors and my agent for the great work they did so that I could return'.

'The goal is to fight for the top positions. I am keeping my word to return, it's a dream. That is the idea and the goal for next year. I hope it can happen soon,' added the player.

The 35-year-old midfielder concluded his second stint at River, where he played 127 matches and scored 11 goals. In his two spells at the Núñez team, Fernández accumulated a total of 315 appearances and 42 goals. Furthermore, during these two periods, from 2016 to 2020 and from 2023 to 2025, the midfielder won 7 local and 3 international titles, including the 2018 Copa Libertadores.
